weekend/outfit/dress

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I had a lovely time in Liverpool for Julz's hens weekend. I love Liverpool more each time I go, it's such an interesting city. The Cavern Quarter is awesome. We dressed as pirates for the Saturday night, which was great until some mofo stole my hat. I recovered though with a few hearty "shiver me timbers's".
I think we were pretty good pirates, except we all ended up sounding a bit more like drunk Cornishmen than Johnny Depp. Only two weeks till the wedding now - can't wait!! (speaking of which, anyone who cares about the outfit - it's all sorted now, I've found a matte pewter clutch and matching feathery-jewelled-hair-clip thing. I'm probably going to make do with shoes. Unfortunately).

By the way - thanks for all the support re the dress "dilemma" - I'm sitting tight for the moment, in an effort not to make a rash decision based on a fleeting love affair with a dress-that-is-symbolic-of-much-more-than-a-dress. I'll keep you updated. In the meantime, here is the dress:

... and this is the bit where you all go "seriously Julia? that's hideous. What Are You Thinking???". It's ok, really - my taste has been questioned before (a guy I "dated" in uni and the dungaree/headscarf combo of 1998 spring to mind).

I love it. If it's MEANINGFUL to you... all the better. Who cares if it isn't traditional? What's important is that YOU feel good in it and YOU find meaning in it. Seriously, major kudos. I think it's pretty chic. ;-) And, totally original, of course!

I love this dress! Where where where is it from?
And I wouldn't worry at all about having two dresses if it feels right to you - I've been to plenty of weddings where the bride has changed into something more comfortable once the party really got going.

Hi, this isn't what I was expecting at all after reading your post all about it. Not sure what I was expecting but not this. It is quite lovely though. Does that mean Dave has seen the dress now since you have posted it on here?

Thanks Amanda!

Bells- it's from Monsoon, and is called Heskin at £125. Not bad huh?

Hey Kaz, yeah Dave's already seen this one - seen me in it, acutally. He's not seen my actual wedding dress though, except maybe the tip of the veil. which just looks like a veil...

I'm with the others - do what you want to do! It's totally acceptable! I'm spending half of my reception in my Going Away Sari simply because I don't see why I have to go to the whole trouble of wearing a sari if it's just simply to walk out the door (anyone who's ever attempted to put on/wear a sari will understand that!) It's YOUR wedding Ju, do what you want!

Dungaree/headscarf = hot.

oh, and it's quite short - mid-thigh. and I don't know what's up with the photo, because the sleeves and dress are sheer - there is just a white silk slip that goes underneath.
I'm glad you decided to do that Mel - I can't wait to see you in it!!

I think it's so pretty! Whenever I look at wedding dresses I always just go to department store websites and look for white dresses. I'm hoping to never set foot in a bridal store once I get engaged!

I LOVE it, it's gorgeous. I nearly bought a £100 monsoon dress for our wedding, it was the same shape as yours but covered in silver sequins. I loved that dress!

I love it, and think it would look awesome on you! I totally agree with the doing what feels right for you, it's your day after all! Does this mean the bridesmaids get two dresses as well? ;)

Thanks Julienne, I found the bridal store thing really intimidating! The second time was better, but the first place was horrible. I ended up getting mine off ebay!

Peonies - there are some lovely Monsoon bridal dresses huh? a lot of them are too sheath-like for my shape unfortunately. I am in love with a couple of their evening dresses for bridemsaid dresses at the moment too.

Katie - sure, why not? although I was more thinking of textured bodystockings for you both...

Omg, that's gorgeous. It's something I'd wear everyday (minus the white, which I would spill on immediately). Love the sleeves!

I agree, its cute (and you could wear it again - the true test of a bargain). P.s Pink Poppie did the flowers for our wedding too - They did a really great job!

Hi Ju, I agree with everyone else that it is your day and your decision. The only thing I wonder though is what does that mean for your actual wedding dress? That you wear it for the ceremony and the photos and then that is it? Or would you wear it for the dinner/speeches/first dance and then change into the shorter, more casual one for the crazy, after dinner dancing part of the wedding?

This was MY wedding dress, too!!! I have always loved the 60s and 70s and I wanted a short dress, so this one was perfect for me. I received loads of compliments, especially from the guys, who thought it was "classy but sexy". I wore it with golden shoes with a vintag-y look which went with the dress perfectly.

We didn't have an ordinary wedding though. We got hitched in NYC and then hat a party with all our friends at home.
